New Zealanders to get $1,000 in refund on enveloped mail from the Commonwealth

New Zealand is offering residents of the Commonwealth of Australia $1.5 million in refund money if they return envelopes sent to them from overseas.

The offer comes after the Commonwealth Government last month announced it would not offer the money to Commonwealth citizens, although it was still welcome to citizens.

Australia has also announced it is looking into the matter.

“I’m sure we’ll have a conversation with the Commonwealth about this,” Treasurer Scott Morrison said on Tuesday.

“But I’m also going to be looking at the way in which we do it.”

Australia has about 8,500 Commonwealth citizens in New Zealand, who have not been eligible for refund money since the end of September.

More than 500 Commonwealth citizens have contacted the Government asking for it to make an exception for them.

Mr Morrison said the Government was looking at how it could best accommodate the request.

“There are a lot of different ways we could go about it, whether it be a one-off, whether we’re looking at other avenues, whether the Government can get some support from other governments to help us sort out the arrangements,” he said.

What are the Commonwealth’s current envelopes?

Australians can request a refund for an envelope they received from overseas if they were born in New England, had the Commonwealth birth certificate issued by New Zealand and received the Commonwealth seal.

New Zealand has issued more than 3,600 such envelopes.

Some of the envelopes include: A postcard, dated November 25, 1962, which states: “This envelope is to be returned by mail to the recipient on or about March 23, 1962” and includes an address of “Sydney, New Zealand”.

An envelope, dated April 3, 1963, which reads: “If you send this to us, we will accept it.”

An address of Wellington, New England.

An Australian passport dated December 8, 1948.

A postal code that begins with 9 and ends with 2.

This postal code can be found on the envelope.

If an envelope contains a postage stamp, it indicates the sender’s postal address and the sender will need to include that address on their return.

There is also a postage envelope in the form of a photo-copied postcard with the postal code written on the back.

All these envelopes can be returned via Post-Office Australia to the address listed on the postcard or to the post office of the recipient’s chosen postal address.

You may have received a postal code on a postcard dated October 31, 1957.

The code is listed on this postcard and is not a postage code.
